I’m thrilled to welcome you to the very first post of my blog, The Rabbit Hole. As a fiction writer with a passion for fantasy and romance, I’ve decided to create this space to share my writing journey and the insights I’m gathering about writing, publishing, and life as an MFA student.

My Writing Journey

Every writer has a unique path, and mine has been filled with starts and stops, twists and turns. Writing as a career and eventually publishing my own novel some day has always been a pipe-dream of mine. It was always a nagging thought in the back of my mind - the big What if? Finally, in 2022 at the height of COVID-19 fatigue that I'm convinced triggered the early onset of a mid-life crisis, I quit my job and dove into my writing journey - head first, shoes still on and all. And what a trip it's been!

I believe that stories have the power to transport us to other worlds, to make us feel deeply, and to connect us with others who share the same love. I want to create characters and narratives that resonate with readers, allowing them the escape into the magic of imagination just like countless writers before me have done.

As I navigate the complexities of being an author, I want to share the lessons I’ve learned. From overcoming writer’s block to understanding the intricacies of character development, I hope what I share can inspire fellow writers and readers alike.

The MFA Experience

As an MFA student of creative writing, I’ve had the privilege of immersing myself in a community of passionate writers. The experience so far has been transformative, providing me with the tools and support to refine my craft.

One of the most valuable aspects of my MFA journey has been the opportunity to workshop my writing. Writing feels like it should be a solitary activity and being able to share my work with peers and receive feedback was a daunting first for me. After the initial shock of having to publicly defend my writing choices, the experience has not only enriched my writing craft but has also given me a community of fellow writers to soundboard with.
